Drip Irrigation results in Bumper Chili Crop
Under ‘Enhancing Tribal Development Outcome (ETDO) project supported by CARE, drip irrigation was one of the schemes provided to farmers belonging to BPL families. In village Bhanpuri in Pavi Jetpur taluka, 2 farmers, benefited through Drip Irrigation scheme. Ishwarbhai Rathwa in his 2 acres land and Nanjibhai Rathwa in 1 acre land experimented by growing chilies through drip irrigation. They did not have any experience of growing chilies but with guidance from SFT, their profit increased two to three folds.
Ishwarbhai Rathwa said, ‘Normally I grow cotton every year and earn about Rs. 30,000/- to Rs. 35,000/- from 2 acres of land. This year I grew chilies and earned Rs. 1, 10,000/-. Not only that, earlier a lot of water and manure was getting wasted. Under the guidance of Shroffs Foundation trust, we saved time, energy and money. Also drip irrigation system was installed in our farms at 90% subsidy. Thus we earned much more at a very little cost. Similarly Nanjibhai also grew chilies in his 1 acre land and earned Rs. 60,000/- instead of his usual Rs. 30,000/-.
Thus, through program like ETDO, farmers now have access to government schemes for their benefit. Guidance from NGOs, provide value addition.
