‘Sanjeevani’ Dialysis Unit, a Life Line for Meghaben

Meghaben Limaye’s husband Jayesh, who suffered from epilepsy since last 20 years died six years ago. Taking care of an ailing husband, she not only had to give up her job but was left almost penny less, when she became a widow. Due to struggle and life’s pressure she developed problem of high blood pressure. The blood pressure led to kidney failure and she had to resort to dialysis to survive. Her own health problems prevented her from working. She found it extremely difficult for both the ends to meet. Her in-laws refused to support her or give her husband’s share in the property.

She became so desperate that she gave up the treatment which she just could not afford. Slowly her condition deteriorated. Finally her brother stepped in and took her to Dahod under his care. While inquiring for treatment options, he learnt from a friend that RKPH had a dialysis unit and treatment was available at half the cost. Her brother again shifted her to Vadodara and registered her at ‘Sanjeevani’ dialysis unit for treatment.

Since RKPH also provides transportation services through pick up van, she could come and go independently. All her medical and other expenses are being paid by her brother. She is managing her personal expenses from interest income of Rs. 1400/- per month.

She says,” Though my brother has taken up responsibility for me, I too have to think of him who has to take care of his family, children’s education and repay home loan. At RKPH, dialysis cost is reduced to half. Dialysis support scheme further reduces the cost. Not only that, the quality of services are good, with a pickup van services I am independent. The meals provided on the days of dialysis, take care of my food for the day. I express my heartfelt gratitude to SFT. Whatever little saving I have, I will ask my brother to donate some amount to the dialysis fund after my death so that other poor people can benefit.”

Thanks to Sanjeevani dialysis unit which has proved to be a life line for Meghaben Limaye.
