Livelihood Security: Widow Economic Resettlement Program

Widow Economic Resettlement Program

Widows in India are in a very vulnerable position as most of them are neither educated nor financially independent. Some unscrupulous people take advantage of their helplessness as many times she is forced to compromise her dignity, just to make two ends meet for herself and her children.

VISH has been training such women since 2006 to establish Trade/ Business/ Service Centre or self employment through entrepreneurship and make them financially independent. During the year 185 young widows were trained in various businesses through 10 training programs in Padra taluka of Vadodara district. Similarly 84 widows were trained in stitching and embroidery in Bhuj through 4 training programs. All those trained under the project received a kit worth Rs. 5000/- to start a business of their choice. Though the earnings are not high, at least it adds to the pension they receive from the government.

These trainings have definitely made some impact on lives of quite a few widows besides making them financially independent. Thus Widow Economic Resettlement program has helped many hapless women and made them self sufficient.
