Knowledge
without action has no value and action without knowledge
is blind.
SFT
always strives to take intelligent actions, keeping
calm even in the situation of natural calamities and
disaster, at the same time not losing the sight of
need for urgency.
This
is evident from the methodology followed for relief
work. While ensuring that immediate relief work gets
started, SFT started relief operations through a sequential
process of Survey, Compilation, Analysis, Action Plan
& Actions.
The
process followed for flood relief work was taken up
after identifying following objectives.
- To
identify areas with the help of government where
relief was required.
- To
assess and survey the gravity of the situation
and work out the need of relief
-
To muster volunteers for relief operations.
-
To instantly start with relief from the foundation
funds.
-
To identify and obtain materials and cash assistance
from donors.
-
To efficiently distribute of relief kit while
retaining dignity of receivers
-
To initiate steps to prevent epidemic break out
-
To identify and initiate steps to rehabilitate
farmers and other affected people.
-
To identify and initiate steps to study for restoring
Water bodies such as check dam, ponds, and reservoirs.
Also to study agriculture land to determine the
erosion caused due to floods.
-
To record experiences gained for future crisis
situations and build a knowledge base.
Based
on these objectives, a Relief Operations Strategy
was developed to facilitate focused and effective
actions. The strategy was divided into following components.
- Assessment
of loss! damage and need for relief and rehabilitation
-
To attend to ‘most affected people first’
-
Formation of teams. Assign specific areas and
tasks.
-
Motivate people for participation in relief work
-
Network and synergize our efforts with that of
local government bodies and other agencies to
avoid duplication and waste of efforts.
-
Obtain and organize technical knowledge and material
for sanitation & fumigation operations
-
Activate donor management team
-
Identify future needs for long term activities
The
strategy can be well depicted with the following diagram. |
